Our First Book Give! Angel Oak Elementary
What a great way to get gently used books back out and circulating in the community! Angel Oak Elementary hosted it’s annual Fiesta on the Lawn celebration in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month this past Saturday, October 14, and welcomed us to have a table at event. We brought several boxes of books, all donated by the Charleston Friends of the Library, ranging from children’s books and Young Adult to a section for adults with fiction and non-fiction/self-help/business.
Along with hearing the joy and surprise from kids as they asked, “I can really have this?”, what I enjoyed was hearing the adults quietly exclaim, “Oh! Wow, I haven’t read this in years,” and “What a great book” and - even better - “You should definitely read that one!”
We’re looking forward to our next event, hopefully taking place in December with another one in March 2024. In the meantime, we continue to refill free library locations as needed, as well as place new ones and install our indoor “Perches” at locations with community access. We look forward to bringing many more books to eager readers!
